Born into a family of musicians, Elaine began her own artistic journey at the age of 10 with her first set of oil paints. She has been studying art and painting ever since. Landscapes have always been her love, where shapes, textures and lighting always offer an endless source of subjects and challenges.
Living in England (1983-1986) gave Elaine the opportunity to study watercolor with a private instructor from Oxford. It also provided her the opportunity to visit the National Gallery of Art in London and the Louvre in Paris and traveled extensively throughout Germany and Holland. This period was very inspiring for her and developed a love for English and European landscapes. It was in 1985, that she began her professional art career, selling her works.
Moving to Georgia (1986-1996), Elaine became active in the Warner Robins Artist Assoc., serving as President in 1989-90 and as Chairperson for several art shows. She also served as member-at-large for the Middle GA Artist’s Assoc. In 1990, she began teaching art classes at local art stores and through various Artist Associations. She owned and operated her own art gallery, Art Expressions, from 1991 through 1996, leaving it behind to return to her native New England.
Elaine has a deep connection to the natural world around her and enjoys taking part in translating natures’ inspirations to canvas. Her current body of work focuses on the New England landscape with emphasis on historical settings throughout the New England area. She holds the Hudson River Valley Artists in high regard for their valuable studies en plein air along with their classical academic approach to painting. She strives to remain faithful to this process when creating her own art by experiencing the mood of the landscape en plein air, and walking off the beaten path to render small drawing or painting studies, usually for use on larger studio pieces.
Elaine continues to provide art instruction at White Birch Fine Art Studio and is an active advocate of the fine arts in her community.
“IMAGINE…art is like a kaleidoscope, with its’ ever changing facets; for that I am grateful.”
